Effectiveness of lutein

Apr 03, 2021

Lutein is mainly intended to protect vision, which is mainly reflected in two aspects.

1. The optic nerve is non-renewable and vulnerable to harmful free radicals. The antioxidant effect of lutein can suppress the formation of harmful free radicals.

2. The wavelength of blue visible light is close to the wavelength of ultraviolet light. This is the most harmful light that can hit the retina. Before reaching the sensory cells of the retina, light passes through an area with the highest concentration of lutein, which can filter large amounts of blue light.

Lutein Health Function

Lutein is a common natural pigment widely distributed in eye tissue and the retina. The highest concentration of the macular region plays an important role in normal visual function.

Research shows that taking 6-10 mg of lutein daily may effectively reduce the risk of eye diseases caused by increased oxidative stress with age. Many studies have shown that the main mechanisms of lutein's effects on visual fatigue are antioxidant and light barrier.

Lutein is also a strong antioxidant that scavenges all types of free radicals. It is also recognized as one of the strongest singlet oxygen scavengers. Lutein can suppress oxidative damage to the macular tissue of the retina caused by many reasons to maintain normal vision.
